The 'Instrumental Series' had its origins in two of Marion's earlier works which featured sculpted representations of
musical instruments on wood panels.
The series will comprise around 10 works; each based upon a stringed musical instrument ranging from piano, bowed strings
to plucked strings such as lute and harp. It should be completed during 2009.
Each work is on a wood panel which measures 51cms x 40cms.
'Cellos' features a series of cellos and a fragment of classical music manuscript worked into the texture.
The piece re-creates the majestic and wistful tone of a Mozartean string composition in an andante tempo.
'Piano' was originally titled 'Requiem' and has the romantic overtones of a nineteenth century requiem as
exemplified by Verdi. The central, sculpted piano greets the viewer as it extends outward from the wood panel by 3 cms. The
piano itself was inspired by a Bosendorfer and has a central rectangular window which features a fragment of late romantic
music manuscript.
